Time Entries & Timer

Track time with entries and the live timer in TimeCurve.

Time entries are the individual work items inside a job. Each entry records a description, timing sessions, cost, and optional notes.

Entry types

TimeCurve supports two types of time entries:

TypeDescription
TimedDuration is recorded by starting and stopping the timer. Cost is calculated from the hourly rate multiplied by elapsed hours.
FixedA flat amount billed regardless of time spent.

Adding a time entry

With a job selected, click Add entry in the bottom toolbar. A new timed entry is created and selected automatically.

Using the live timer

Starting the timer

  1. Select an entry in the job (or let TimeCurve create one automatically).
  2. Click Start timer (or Quick time to create and start immediately).
  3. The global timer bar appears at the top of every page showing the client name, job name, entry description, and elapsed time as a live clock.

Stopping the timer

Click Stop timer in the bottom toolbar or in the global timer bar. The elapsed duration is saved as a new timing session on the entry.

Multiple sessions per entry

You can start and stop the timer on the same entry multiple times. Each start/stop cycle is saved as a separate timing session. The total hours displayed for the entry is the sum of all its timing sessions.

Entry details

Click a row in the time entry table to open the Entry details panel. From here you can:

  • Edit the entry description
  • Add or edit internal notes
  • Change the entry type (timed / fixed)
  • Set or override the hourly rate
  • Toggle Taxable, Included, and Locked flags

Entry flags

FlagDescription
TaxableMarks the entry as subject to tax when included in an invoice
IncludedIndicates the entry has been added to an invoice
LockedPrevents the timer from being started on this entry (e.g. already billed)

Deleting an entry

Use the delete action in the entry row context menu or the entry details panel. Locked entries cannot be deleted until unlocked.

Summary totals

The job header always shows the cumulative total time (formatted as hh:mm:ss) and total cost (formatted in the default currency) for all entries in the job.
