Tips & Tricks

Get the most out of TimeCurve with these productivity tips.

Use the global timer bar

The timer bar at the top of every page shows the currently running timer. You can stop the timer from any page without navigating back to Time Tracking. This means you can open Invoices or Settings while your timer is still running, and stop it when you're done.

Always start the timer before you work

It is easy to forget to start the timer until you have already been working for 30 minutes. Build the habit of hitting Quick time as soon as you open a job. If you do forget, you can manually edit the start time on a timing session from the entry details panel.

Use job-level rates for project overrides

If one particular project commands a higher or lower rate than your usual client rate, set the rate at the job level. You won't need to remember to adjust individual entries — TimeCurve picks up the job rate automatically.

Combine timed and fixed entries in one invoice

Consulting work often mixes hourly support with fixed deliverables (e.g. a report or a design file). Create timed entries for your hours and fixed entries for the flat items, then add them all to a single invoice. The invoice correctly handles both types and shows a single accurate total.

Lock entries once billed

After an entry has been included in a sent invoice, mark it as Locked. Locked entries cannot have their timer started again, which prevents accidentally adding more time to work you have already billed.

Use the Included flag to track billing status

The Included flag on a time entry indicates that it has been added to an invoice. You can filter or visually scan for entries that are not yet included to identify unbilled work across all your jobs.

Keep your client list tidy

Archive or delete clients you no longer work with. A shorter sidebar list makes it faster to find active clients and reduces visual clutter. All historical data (jobs, entries, invoices) is preserved even when a client is deleted — but note that deleting removes the records permanently.

Resize the sidebar to your preference

Drag the divider between the sidebar and the main panel to give more screen space to your entry list. TimeCurve remembers your preferred width across sessions.

Review totals before invoicing

Before creating an invoice, click through your jobs to review the Total time and Total cost shown in each job header. This gives you a quick sanity check that all time has been captured before you start building the invoice.
